When children are young, their reality has a continual overlay of fantasy. From the moment they get up, my kids are in alternate worlds, whether they play themselves in different places, or they transform into other people or beings. The props that surround them also play a key role in these transformations. A piece of cloth becomes a rocket ship or a doll becomes a living baby that is ready for her next meal.

I see the remnants of these alternate realities scattered throughout my house. When I can see the life within these elements, I see much more than the mess left behind by children. Objects have a resonance of the people that have loved them.
